Klink’d is an advanced mobile App that informs users of current deals and events happening around them in real-time; from a drinks special, to an impromptu acoustic gig, to a cake fresh out the oven in a favorite cafe. It can be connected to Facebook and Twitter, and a rewards scheme means that even though it is free, users can potentially save money too.


I was approached by the Directors of Klink’d (originally branded ‘Klinked’) to rebrand their new mobile App. I was given the following objectives:

  1. To develop a new brand identity and accompanying assets for new app bringing local events and deals to Merseyside
  2. To pull this identity through the line from brand positioning to internal branding, look, feel and tone of voice
  3. To create accompanying social posts and collateral to support PR re-launch


My first major initiative with this project was to organize a focus group of the target users in order to gather feedback of the existing brand and product. It became apparent that the name was the first distinct confusion as prospective users felt this was a ‘connection app’ similar to LinkedIn, resulting in the new name to represent the original purpose, the sound of glasses ‘klinking’ together. This also led me to the creation of the tagline “The sound of good times” and the use of more striking and ‘trendy’ imagery of the specific age group enjoying themselves.

Another important factor of the functionality of the app was that the target age-range preferred not to be seen ‘penny-pinching’, meaning I had to create a brand, which they WANT to be part of.

I was also extremely conscious that the app market is littered with apps claiming to do the same or similar things to Klink’d, so I created a completely custom typeface representing something, which would be instantly recognizable and modern, which were key from the focus group
